Representatives of the companies NHZ and Bioglobal attended the first Gulf Day International Conference, which was held on 15th December 2016, at Grand Hotel Union in Ljubljana and was focused on discussing common interests, challenges, and on strengthening bilateral relations between Slovenia and the Gulf countries.


Representatives of the six member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), among them Dr. Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, Secretary General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, Dr. Rashid bin Ahmed bin Fahad, Minister of State of the United Arab Emirates, Dr. Abdel Aziz Abu Hamad Aluwaisheg, representatives of the Kuwait fund, and representatives of the political, economic, and academic sphere, European countries, and members of the diplomatic council all participated at the Conference.


The opening speeches were given by Karl Erjavec, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia and Dr. Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, Secretary General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf. The conference was moderated by Alenka Suhadolnik, ambassador and coordinator of the first Gulf Day International Conference.


During the rest of the day, participants could listen to panel discussions about national development visions for new global realities, climate changes, renewable energy for a sustainable future and development paradigms. Participants of the conference also had enough extra time for gathering and networking during lunch.


If we look further into the future, the EXPO 2020 World Exhibition will be held in the United Arab Emirates between October 2020 and April 2021. 25 million visitors are expected. Zdravko Počivalšek, Minister of Economic Development and Technology of the Republic of Slovenia, during his September visit in UAE, delivered a letter of intent in which Slovenia expressed its intention to participate at the exhibition. Therefore, the organisers of this spectacular exhibition presented the concept of the event at the conference. EXPO 2020 Dubai will be the first World Expo to take place in the MEASA (Middle East, Africa and South Asia) region.
